WorldofEvents.net was launched in 1997 to support events education, research and the dissemination of information for industry professionals, educators, researchers and students. Although independently owned and managed by Glenn A J Bowdin, the site was initially designed to support students on the BA(Hons) Events Management at Leeds Metropolitan University. The site has since grown into a directory of links and information relating to event, special event, festival, incentive travel, conference, convention and exhibition management. WorldofEvents.net is one of series of sites dedicated to supporting professionism, education and research within service industries. Other sites in the series are WorldofHospitality.net, WorldofRetailing.net,WorldofServices.net and WorldofTourism.net. WorldofEvents.net has received attention from industrialists and educators alike, and has received recognition for its contribution to developing events professionalism. Notably, WorldofEvents.net has received the "ExpoWorld.net Gold Seal of Approval" and in February 2000 Glenn A J Bowdin, site developer, received The Max Cuff Award 2000 from the Incentive Travel & Meetings Association in recognition of WorldofEvents.net being developed for the benefit of the industry.
